There is a wedding story you remember because of the beautiful décor, the flowers, the venue or the little details that came together perfectly. And then there is a wedding story you remember because of the people. Recently, I had one of those beautiful reminders of why we love wedding planning and décor at Kazawa.
I met a couple whose wedding we worked on 10 years ago. Ten years later, they are still happily married, with three children. And seeing them again made me incredibly happy.
A wedding is one day. A marriage is the story that follows.
When you’re planning a wedding, it’s easy to become completely immersed in the details.
The colour palette.
The flowers.
The wedding backdrop.
The tables and chairs.
The reception setup.
The stationery.
The guest list.
The endless WhatsApp conversations with vendors.
As wedding planners and decorators in Nairobi, we understand just how much goes into creating a beautiful wedding day. And those details matter. Your wedding story should be a reflection of you. But meeting this couple ten years later reminded me that there is something much bigger behind all that planning. A wedding isn’t just an event. It’s the beginning of a marriage.
Ten years later, the décor is no longer the important part
When we worked on their wedding, our focus was naturally on making sure everything came together beautifully. We wanted the couple and their guests to have a wonderful experience. But we didn’t get to see what happened after the wedding. The décor was eventually taken down. The flowers faded. The tables were cleared. The guests went home. Life continued. And somewhere along the way, this couple built a life together.
Ten years later, they have three children and a decade of memories behind them. That is the part of a wedding story that we don’t always get to witness. We get invited into the beginning of the story, but we don’t always get to see the chapters that follow. So meeting them again was incredibly special.
To the bride planning her wedding in Nairobi…
If you’re currently planning your wedding, you may be spending your days searching for:
- Wedding décor ideas
- Wedding venues in Nairobi
- Wedding colour combinations
- Wedding planners in Kenya
- Wedding photographers
- Wedding dresses
- Reception décor
- The perfect flowers
- The right chairs and tables
And there is nothing wrong with wanting your wedding to be beautiful.
In fact, you deserve a wedding story that feels completely and wonderfully yours. But while you’re choosing the details, remember what you’re actually celebrating. You’re not just planning a party. You’re celebrating the beginning of a marriage.
Choose your wedding vendors carefully
Your wedding vendors become part of your journey. Your wedding planner or coordinator will hear your ideas, help you make decisions, manage timelines and, ideally, take some of the pressure off your shoulders. Your décor team will help transform your venue into a space that reflects your personality and your story. That’s why choosing the right wedding planning and décor team matters.
At Kazawa, we don’t believe wedding planning should simply be about putting beautiful things in place. It’s about understanding the couple, their vision, their guests and the experience they want to create. Because behind every beautiful setup is a real love story.
What will your wedding story look like 10 years from now?
This is the question I found myself thinking about after meeting this couple again. Perhaps ten years from now, you’ll look at your wedding photographs and remember the flowers. Maybe you’ll laugh about the things that didn’t quite go according to plan. Maybe you’ll have children running around while you tell them about your wedding day. Maybe you’ll celebrate your tenth anniversary in the same place where you exchanged your vows.
Or perhaps you’ll simply look across the room at your husband or wife and think: “We really did this.” That, ultimately, is what makes a wedding beautiful. Not just how it looks in the photographs, but the life that comes after.
Here’s to beautiful weddings and lasting love
At Kazawa, we are privileged to be trusted with some of the most important celebrations in people’s lives.

Ten years later, meeting this couple reminded us of that. Their wedding was one day. Their marriage has been a decade—and counting. And that made me incredibly happy.
To all the brides and couples currently planning their weddings:
Plan the beautiful wedding. Enjoy the little details. Take the photographs. Dance until your feet hurt.
But most importantly, look at the person standing beside you and remember what you’re really celebrating.
